Orthodontics

Orthodontics deals with the control, development and growth of the dentition and the anatomical structures related to it. Its purpose is to achieve and maintain a correct alignment of the teeth, oral soft tissues and masticatory muscles, to achieve a better development of the oral structures and to improve aesthetics.

We recommend that children around the age of 7 visit the orthodontist for a first check-up and early diagnosis of possible developmental problems.

Malocclusions (incorrect way of contacting the teeth) can cause problems with chewing, phonation, breathing and aesthetics.

Orthodontic therapy has different stages according to each need: a preventive phase, an interception phase, an orthopedic phase and, finally, a period of treatment with fixed orthodontics followed by retention.

The factors that cause malocclusions are numerous.

They can be hereditary and environmental.

Hereditary factors are dental crowding, interdental diastemas (separations), supernumerary teeth, agenesis (lack of teeth), maxillary and / or mandibular bone growth in excess or defect and malformation syndromes.

Environmental factors include harmful habits, such as prolonged pacifier use, finger or lower lip sucking, but also functional abnormalities such as atypical swallowing, mouth breathing, abnormal tongue positioning, or more complex skeletal abnormalities.

The diagnosis is made with intraoral and facial photographs, orthopantomography of the dental arches, cranial teleradiography in lateral projection, volumetric tomography (in some cases), magnetic resonance imaging of the mandibular temporal joint (in some cases).

At OMIDENTAL, we have particularly advanced diagnostic systems, developed on the basis of the latest scientific research, which allow us to perform precise orthodontic treatments.
These include digital CT, lateral projection skull teleradiography, orthopantomography of the dental arches, state-of-the-art low-dose radiology and, from a very recent discovery, the identification of the personal growth peak (genetic test) that allows defining the time frame in which the child / adolescent's peak of maximum development will take place, in order to concentrate the treatments in that period, which will therefore be more effective, less long and, consequently, less expensive.
The correction of the teeth and the bone bases is carried out through fixed and / or removable appliances, which can currently be applied at any age and with hardly any aesthetic problems.

There are different techniques according to the needs of each person:

Metal braces

With them you will be able to align your teeth in the shortest possible time and with excellent results.

Ceramic braces

They have a more aesthetic effect because they are the same color as the teeth and practically do not alter the aesthetics of the smile.

Lingual Orthodontics

The braces are placed on the inside of the tooth, so they are not visible. This is a more discreet and aesthetic option.

Invisible Orthodontics

They are clear splints that can be removed for eating and brushing your teeth. They are tailored to each patient and must be changed from time to time as the teeth are aligned.
